Ganglion Procedure

When a patient experiences head, neck, or arm pain, the cause of the pain may be related to the stellate nerve ganglion and may be receptive to a stellate ganglion block. The stellate nerve ganglion is a group of nerves located near the neck that transfers pain signals from the neck, face, and arms to the rest of the nervous system. Injecting the stellate nerve ganglion area with pain killing medication, or performing a stellate ganglion block, inhibits the pain signals sent through the nervous system, thereby reducing the patient’s experience of pain.

Stellate ganglion blocks can be particularly helpful for those with causalgia.
